Jeff Rowell - Meteorite Thin Sections

Quality Sections at Reasonable Prices

Name: Al Haggounia
Type: Likely an EL3 but see remarks below
Fall/Find: Find. Purchased in December 2005
Remarks: Al Haggounia is an ancient, paleo-meteorite and, as such, is very weathered. It's classification has been the subject of considerable controversy, with paired meteorites having been variously described as an aubrite, EL6/7 enstatite chondrite, and an EL3. It appears that the EL3 classification is likely correct. Additional information can be found at http://www4.nau.edu/meteorite/Meteorite/Al_Haggounia.html and http://johnkashuba.com/Pages/Meteorite%20Pages/Pictures/NWA2965EL3.htm. The later link provides a nice summary in addition to some excellent photomicrographs taken of what are apparently paired meteorites.

Quite weathered - but this section shows a few interesting clasts. $30.00
